Description

Discover a high-elevation, primitive campsite near Ketchikan, Alaska, right off the forest road. This lightly forested area features lush greenery and offers stunning views of misty mountains with clouds all around. A primitive stone fire ring is located beyond the parking spot, providing a cozy campfire experience.

The site has enough room for a single vehicle and offers a great view of the sky for satellite connectivity, although there is no cell service. As one of the few good boondocking spots in this touristy region, it’s an excellent improvised camping option. Black bears are common in the area, adding to the wild charm of the location.

Nearby hiking opportunities in the surrounding Tongass National Forest make this spot perfect for adventurers. The beautiful scenery and tranquil setting create an unforgettable camping experience in the heart of Alaska's inside passage.

We’ve been here in-person, but it might have been a while. To our knowledge, this spot is currently open and accessible, but that can easily change, so always have a back-up plan!
