Streamside Retreat in the Southern Chiricahuas

Description

Located in the Chiricahua Mountains of Coronado National Forest in southern Arizona, this primitive dispersed campsite is a hidden gem. Accessible along a dusty forest road, it comes with a stone fire ring ready for action. Despite being remote and rural, the dirt roads leading here are gentle enough for most vehicles, though a stock four-wheel drive is recommended.

Set in a mountain valley next to a babbling stream, this site offers a peaceful coniferous area with rugged mountain views peeking through the trees. No cell service here and too much tree cover for satellite connectivity, but who needs that when surrounded by nature's finest?

The campsite itself is flat, with enough room for one or two vehicles. Plenty of hiking opportunities and primitive roads to explore in the area. Located just off the main forest road, privacy might be limited, but traffic is unlikely since the road dead-ends a few miles away.

This spot offers a serene escape, perfect for spending a night or two in a beautiful natural setting. It's a tranquil, scenic retreat, just waiting to be enjoyed.

Always tread lightly, leave no trace, respect the wishes of landowners, and leave campsites cleaner than you found them. Be the very best steward of our public spaces that you can possibly be so that they remain public.

Status – OPEN

We’ve been here in-person, but it might have been a while. To our knowledge, this spot is currently open and accessible, but that can easily change, so always have a back-up plan!
